Callum Brittain isn’t paying much attention to the league table at this stage as Rovers aim to keep building “game by game”.
John Eustace’s side have been consistently around the top six in recent months, but Brittain is only focused on putting a run of results together.
The full-back is in fine form, picking up the Man of the Match prize against Preston North End and now being named Rovers’ Player of the Month following a supporter vote.
“I don't think we really think about (the table), it is more game-to-game,” he told " target="_blank" class="link"> RoversTV.
“Obviously, off the back of three losses, we really wanted to go out there for the fans and get the three points.
“We look to the next game, it is a relentless schedule. It is another difficult away game on Tuesday and we go there with full confidence. If you can put a little run together, it really gets your far in this league.”
Rovers survived a late scare to secure maximum points, and the bragging rights, against North End on Friday night.
Many would argue that results are all that matter heading towards the business stage of the campaign, but Brittain is confident the results will come if they keep performing well.
“I think the performances are the main thing,” he continued. “The gaffer really believes that if we are digging in, grafting, winning second balls and being relentless, then those three points are going to come game after game.
“We keep working hard on the training pitch, were are a tight-knit group and long may this form continue.”
It was Rovers’ first victory against PNE since April 2022, and the 26-year-old was delighted to get the job done for the fans.
“Massive, we owed them one,” he beamed. “We are buzzing to get the three points against them for the fans.
“To be honest, after our bad little run we have been on, the performances have been there. The gaffer just said keep grafting, keep working for each other and those three points will come.
“I felt we really started the game well. We had moments and I thought we really grew into the game. Then, I felt like that second was always going to come and Todd slotted it away nicely.
“(Scoring goals) is the hardest part of football. We have struggled at times and in other games, we have put three or four away.
“We just need to find the right balance, but the performances are there. I am really proud of that performance and happy for the fans.”
Makhtar Gueye produced another impressive display against PNE, nodding home the opener after getting on the end of Tyrhys Dolan’s delivery.
“He has been excellent, we have all been praising him,” said Brittain. “I think you have got to be patient with some players.
“Coming over to England, he moved away from his family, learning English. I think if you look at it from that perspective, if I was to move abroad, I would find it difficult as well.
“Credit to him, he has worked hard every day and he is putting in some fantastic performances. He is really working hard for the team.
“The type of player he is, we needed to put more balls into the box for him and we are starting to do that.
“He is starting to thrive from that. His hold-up play has been excellent for the last few games and I am really happy for him.”
